O.C. TEST (OPPORTUNITY CLASS PLACEMENT TEST)

O.C. TEST STANDS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY CLASS PLACEMENT TEST
The Opportunity Class Placement Test is a secured test, written by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
The test papers cannot be viewed before or after the test session. The test does not normally contain any questions used in previous tests.
The test evaluates the students' abilities rather than measures the students' performance on the school curriculum.
Students seeking entry into the Opportunity Class would be sitting for The Opportunity Class Placement Test held in designated test centres each year.

opportunity class

Opportunity Classes cater for highly achieving Year 5 and Year 6 academically gifted students who may otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level.
These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other similarly gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Parents normally apply for The Opportunity Class Placements when their children are in Year 4. Successful Students would then attend the Opportunity Class full time in Year 5 and Year 6 at the primary school with an Opportunity Class.
It is a two-year placement programme. In the majority of cases, Successful Students may leave their respective current schools at the end of Year 4 to attend the school with an Opportunity Class. This may be at a different school to their current or previous schooling.
There is no provision to apply for Year 6 placement only.
The High Performing Students Unit administers the Opportunity Class Placement process.
There are 76 primary schools with Opportunity Classes across NSW. (as at 2018)
